Professional Triathlete Training Log - Weekly Swim, Bike, and Run Miles For Aug 13 - Aug 19

With Ms. Mandy Mclane at Steelhead

This week I continued my "big block" of training racing at Ironman Steelhead and I can say that I have finally made it to taper week for my "A" race Ironman Louisville.  Late last month I decided to make the change to make Louisville my focus instead of Ironman Wisconsin because I need a flat and mostly straight run course.  I find that the turns and the downhills are most problematic for my Achilles and decided to make Louisville my race.  I'm very much in experimentation mode right now, and even if things really don't go well at Louisville there is always Ironman Wisconsin or Rev3 Cedar Point two weeks later.

As for my "race" at Steelhead, I'll do a full write-up even though I really just swam and biked again.  The amazing thing though is after the race I drove to Louisville to stay with my amazing homestay and I was seriously ready to race again.  I often say I am ready shortly after a race, but I actually felt ready both physically and mentally and really had an itch Sunday night.  As I type this it is reminder that my true strength in this sport is my ability to stay mentality focused.  There is so much beauty in sport, and I am so thankful I am able to do what I do.

As for my week of training, well it was very much ad-hoc.  I went on two runs that both turned out to be much longer - and sometimes faster - than I expected.  I set a few swim PRs and focused on keeping the engine running but not building it.

Here are my weekly swimbike, and run totals:
